FAQ

What is a swim raft?

A swim raft is a floating platform designed for swimmers to rest or play on in a body of water. Great Northern Docks offers aluminum swim rafts, wooden swim raft parts, and plastic shippable modular swim rafts.

What are floating rafts called?

Floating rafts used for swimming are commonly referred to as swim rafts or simply rafts.

What is the best material for a swim raft?

The best material for a swim raft depends on your preferences and needs. Aluminum swim rafts are sturdy and long-lasting, while wooden swim raft parts can allow for a more traditional look. Plastic shippable modular swim rafts are lightweight and easy to assemble. Great Northern Docks offers all three options to suit different preferences.

How heavy is a swim raft anchor?

The weight of a swim raft anchor can vary depending on the size of the raft and the conditions of the body of water. Great Northern Docks offers swim raft anchors in different weights to accommodate different sizes and conditions.

Do anchors break on a raft?

Anchors can break or come loose from a swim raft if they are not properly installed or maintained. Great Northern Docks offers high-quality swim raft anchors that are designed to be durable and reliable.

What are the different types of rafts?

There are several different types of swim rafts available, including aluminum swim rafts, wooden swim raft parts, and plastic shippable modular swim rafts. Each type of raft has its own unique features and benefits.

What do you use to float a raft?

Swim rafts are designed to float on the surface of the water using foam or air-filled floatation. Traditionally, barrels are used for floatation, however these are not recommended as they allow swim rafts to tip excessively. Floats that resemble box shapes are far more stable.

MPD Plastic Swim Rafts

Each MPD block has an independent air chamber which allows them to be configured in other patterns and shapes – like as a plastic swim raft!

We offer 8’x8′ and 8’x10′ MPD Kits made up of plastic dock blocks that ship on pallets. The blocks used are 2′ x 2′ x 10″. Contact us to order an MPD raft.

The 20º Aluminum Swing up Ladder can be added to your MPD raft kit. The ladder connects simply to the raft. The part number for the Correct Ladder and Included Bolt Kit is #9079MPD.

Dura-LITE™ Swim Raft

Many of the best memories from camp involve swimming between the swim raft and dock. Our Dura-LITE swim raft is designed to help you and your family relive these great memories.

The Dura-LITE™ Swim Raft

The swim raft design focuses on stability, safety, and longevity. Using best-in-class air or foam floatation, these swim rafts help you feel reassured when children (or adults!) are on it. The Dura-LITE aluminum side extrusions have rounded edges, and a textured top edge to increase grip. The raft floats are durable and are crafted from long-lasting rotationally-molded polyethylene, and are filled with air or foam, depending on your needs. Furthermore, our quality craftsmen are known for their attention to detail and their welding experience, while using quality materials that ensure any Dura-LITE product lasts for many years.

Rafts are made in an 8’x8′ or 8’x10′ layout, and have several decking options. Cedar and Composite-board decking is panelized, to make install and removal easy, while plastic perforated decking is screwed in to create a no-frills raft with a grippy, drainable surface. You also have a choice of swim ladders, one being straight, that reaches deep in the water, and one being angled at 20 degrees for increased ergonomics when climbing.

Swim Ladder Choices

Our 20 degree Swim Ladder is our most popular. The slope is easier to climb than a vertical ladder and it has a 3″ wide step with foot friendly traction. This ladder swings up for dry storage and a locking pin holds the ladder in the down position when in use.
